Wild Writing Women Retreat
Photos from Port Cros

The ferry from Le Lavandou to the island of Port Cros carries tourists, mostly French, on day trips to the island.

The port of Port Cros island is small and picturesque, with a few hotels and restaurants, but the island is mostly left to nature.

On our 45 minute hike to the other side of the island to snorkle we find a graveyard. The graves are decorated with iron crosses and ceramic flowers, photographs, stones, and fresh bouquets.

The snorkle trail is a series of channels through the water that take us out to the island and back, through sea grass and rocky cliffs. Sea life is rich, we snorkle in the company of schools of fish, crabs, shrimps, sponges, anemones, sea cucumbers, and even octopi.
